Sadie Staying Warm

A Great Start To The New Year

I bought it today!

No I don't have a place for it....

Yet....

But it is so cute I had to buy it!

The back left burner spot holds a pot...

Do any of you remember those...

My Grandmother had a stove with a pot in the back

and she made soup in it all the time...

I remember how good her house smelled when you came in from the cold.

I was really small but I remember thinking she had the coolest stove

that you didn't needed to buy a pan for cooking soup!

Now I have my own Soup Stove.

I couldn't believe what great shape this stove is in.

I am sure I will figure out what to do with it.

It reminds me kind of ....of the one the Gilmore Girls

had in their kitchen.

This one is a 1940 Kelvinator.

Yoyo Mama's Mug Rug Fun

This was such a fun exchange ....

oh my gosh we have a lot of talented YoYo Ladies...

I don't know how this ended up upside down...so cute!

This is the one I was lucky enough to get but since I am

the camera girl I had Betty hold it since she made it.

I am so lucky!

Doesn't she look happy she got that one..

Black and white with a black mug I do think Betty loved it!

Just as cute as the package it was in.

All laid out to see.

Pat is the most organized of our bunch and because of her

everything went smooth.

Mug Rug

I love Mug Rugs!

There is something about them that makes a

cup of tea that much more special.

The Yoyo Mama's are doing a Mug Rug

for the christmas exchange this week.

I have made several and didn't like any of them.

But I finally like one.

So I really hope who ever gets mine

likes it too.

I couldn't get this picture to turn...

oh well you get it...

I always quilt up a yard of a fabric I really like

then I can use it for mug rugs, hot pads and

oven mitts. Makes it easy for a fast gift if I

have some on hand.

When I make these I use the same stuff for the inside

that I use to make hotpads. I can't remember what it is called.

I have been racking my brain to tell you ....

but ...I cant remember.

I buy it at JoAnn's and I am sure if you ask them

for the batting for hotpads they will take you right to it.

Since we are "YoYo Mamas" I had to work in a Yoyo.

This was so fun but I can't believe how much time I spent

trying to decide what kind to make...

I looked at a million (I am sure thats an accurate count)

mugs and cups and I thought I would make one that matches...

Then I thought a strip mug and a polka dot mug rug...

or a floral mug and a strip mug rug....

or a plain mug and a bright mug rug...

see the possibilities.....

then I saw the glass mug....

Goes with everything....YEAH!

then what fabric....oh my Gosh!!!

I will try to get pictures to show you

of the other ones the girls made.

We are having a Mug Rug Exchange

for Christmas at "YoYo Mamas" this

week....

Now I can't show you the one I made for

club ... until after club starts...so I have the post ready

and it will post while I am at the meeting on Wednesday.

I will try to get pictures of the other girls Mug Rugs.

I had so much fun trying to decide what one to

make.

Should I piece it, quilt it, stitch it or applique it...

so many choices and what fabric to use....

such a dilemma...

1 Quilt Down 20 to Go!

I finally got this quilt quilted!! It was 1 of many tops

that got finished but before I quilted it I got the bug

Ok I held off as long as I could but I really want to get my tree up.

The lights are on the house but no tree...

I had to wait until after Thanksgiving since my family think I get

a little carried away with the whole Christmas things.

But I love having the Christmas tree up and turning out the

lights in the room and enjoying the lights on the tree...

I love it.

And yes the Christmas music has been going for a while...

Sewing Saturday

Yes! Boys like to sew too!

We had Sewing Saturday and this is Elijah on his turn at the machine.

The boys are sewing 5 inch blocks together

to make a quilt for watching TV.

I think it will take a few saturdays to finish but that OK since I love

having a day with them.

This is Jackson and Ryan playing on the iPad

waiting their turn at the sewing machine.

After sewing squares we practicing ironing

and if the one sewing wasn't finished then its

Angry Bird time!

This is a fun project since I have a tone of 5 inch squares.

The boys picked what squares they want in their quilt

and they had to decide what ones went together.

This took forever and I loved watching how

important this part was to the boys.

They even started trading....LOL

I will post their progress later.

Sadie's First Snow

Sadie is our lovable Bassett Hound and this was her first snow.

Our other dog Lucy has already been thru 1 winter and

usually she doesn't like any cold or wet weather.

Getting them outside this morning was so hard

but I do think they enjoyed it.

Getting tired now.

Sadie loves the snow!!

Lucy Like the patio best !

Aren't dogs funny.

Lucy is also very dramatic she came in and has to lay by a

heater vent.

I don't think I am going to have any trouble

getting Sadie outside next time.

Its getting cold outside and I am thinking I finished a quilt this week so

now I want to sit and stitch. SO we aren't going to a sewing room today

Scrappy Makes Me Happy!

Our "YoYo Mama's club meets at Material Girls Quilt shop

once a month and we have been trading strips of 30's fabric.

I looked and look thu all my books trying to decide

what I was going to make with them and I found a pattern in

one of the month magazines. And It is made from 2 1/2 strips.

Yeah!

This was a nice and easy quilt but I think from all the

strips we collected I can make 2 more quilts. the

above picture is my starting to make them

into blocks and I sewed them into strips after that.

I was thinking oh my gosh what an UGLY Quilt!

But when I got this far it wasn't too bad.

Its all quilted and I am now binding it.

So stay tuned for the finished pictures.

My picture looked clearer at 3 in the morning.

Materials:

Polka Dot Cotton – 1 yard
J. & P. COATS Percale Bias Trim (double fold) in two contrasting colors
Snap Fastener
J. & P. COATS or CLARK’S O.N.T. Mercerized Sewing Threads to match

Cutting Directions:

Do not add seam allowance to pattern pieces. Pattern piece downloads are at bottom of article.

Apron Front 1 piece, Pattern No. 1
Side Fronts 2 pieces, Pattern No. 2
Bib 1 piece, Pattern No. 3
Pockets 2 pieces, Pattern No. 4
Ties 2 pieces, each 3 1/2″ x 30″

Sewing Directions:

Baste and stitch apron sections, right sides together. Press seams open.

Using all bias trim in double fold, trim lower edge of apron with two rows (of one contrasting color); place one row 1″ above lower edge and second row 1 3/4″ above first row; have open edges of bias at top. Top stitch close to top edges.

Bind side and lower edges of apron with remaining color bias trim; leave top edge free. Turn upper edge to right side 1/4″; press.

Using same shade bias trim as on lower edge of apron, place rows of bias 1″ from edges of bib, lapping trim at corners. Top stitch close to edges.

Bind all edges of bib with same color as outer edges of apron.

With centers matching, lap lower edge of bib over upper edge of apron 3/8″. Top stitch bib in place through all thicknesses.

Trim lower edge of pocket with two rows of bias trim (same color as lower edge of apron) spacing in same way.

Bind all edges of pocket with same color as outer edge of apron.

Place pockets in position on apron; top stitch in place, leaving upper edges free.

Turn in long edges and one end of each tie and finish in narrow machine hems.

Fold a soft pleat in raw end of each tie. Place in position at corner of apron (at waistline) on wrong side; stitch in place. Close points of bib on back with a snap fastener.

How To Make Patterns:

The diagrams on squares are guides for enlarging patterns to actual size. Each small square on diagram represents a 1″ square in actual size.

First note the number of small squares in the length and width of the pattern you wish to make. This tells you the number of inches to allow for the length and the width of your pattern.

With ruler, draw a box of the length and width needed. Mark off 1″ spaces around all sides of the box.

Use ruler to join corresponding marks with straight lines. Use the squares thus made as a guide and draw lines to correspond with those given in the diagram.

How To Use Patterns

Following the lines drawn to correspond with the diagram, first cut out the pattern you have made on paper (the arrow indicates the grain of the fabric).

Then pin the pattern to fabric. The patterns should be pinned so that, when cutting, 1/2″ of fabric will be left around all edges for seam allowance except where special seam allowance is indicated in text (apron No. 2) or no allowance (aprons Nos. 1, 20 and 21) or when pattern sections are given by measurement.

When a pattern section is marked “On Fold,” that edge must be placed directly on the fold of the fabric, and the fold must not be cut. Be sure to transfer all marks found on patterns to the fabric.

We have all been there and sometimes that is the best place to sew.

I find that pulling my machine up to the kitchen table keeps me in the mist of family and also sometimes get me clipping and cutting help...

Now lets see what would I sew...

I think I would make a Tomato Pin Cushion

Pincushion How-To
1. Cut a rectangle of fabric on the bias that's twice as long as it is wide (the largest we made was 3 1/4 inches in diameter and required a 10-by-5-inch piece).With fabric facing right side up, fold in half as shown, and join ends with a 1/4-inch seam. Sew a running stitch around the top edge; tightly pull thread to cinch fabric, and secure with stitches.

2. Turn pouch right side out. Stuff with batting (cotton batting is firmer than polyester). Sew a running stitch around the open end; pull thread to cinch fabric. Tack shut with a few stitches and knot. To flatten, double-thread a cording needle with crochet thread and pull it through the "core" a few times. Mimic a tomato's fluted details by wrapping the thread around the cushion and back through the core several times. Knot thread at top to finish.

3. For heirloom tomatoes, cut a circle of fabric (the largest we made was 3 1/2 inches in diameter and required a 10-inch-diameter circle). With fabric wrong side up, sew a running stitch around perimeter. Place batting in center of fabric, and gather into a pouch. Stuff with more batting, pull thread to cinch, and tack with stitches. Flatten cushion and apply details as in step 2.

4. For tops, photocopy template, enlarging or reducing as desired; cut out. Trace template onto green felt with a disappearing-ink pen; cut out. Using a single-threaded needle, sew a loop onto top. Glue top to tomato.

Note:To sew cherry-tomato pincushions, start with swatches of fabric that are 2 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches. Follow steps 1 and 2 below, but don't flatten cushion or add fluted details. For tops, cut symmetrical, six-pointed stars from green felt. Add loops, and attach them as in step 4.

To Celebrate the 4th of July

here is a recipe for a summer drink.....

Old-Fashioned Lemonade

Stand Lemonade

1-1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup boiling water

1 tablespoon grated lemon rind

1-1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice

5 cups cold water

Lemon and lime slices for garnish

Fresh mint sprigs

Combine sugar and boiling water, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Add lemon rind, lemon juice, and cold water; mix well.

Chill.

Serve over crushed ice garnished with lemon

and lime slices and fresh mint sprigs.

Makes 7 cups

This time of year I am always wanting lemonade drinks

and nothing beat just simple Lemonade!

A Fun Shop Hop

Some years I just go to the ones I like but this year I am going to

all of them.

This shop is a must (so far) to go too.

Their theme is "the Wizard of OZ Treats are Ding Dongs (since the witch is dead)

And they even have Toto Patterns in cute baskets with fabric and batting too for sale....oh and for the pin cushion lovers they have a cute one with a red shoe and the filling.

It really makes a difference when they make such an effort to make it fun

and have unique things that the other shops aren't caring.

These girls really made a huge effort to get my business. And they did!

The thing I really enjoyed about this shop was the going

down in the basement and seeing the demos. I think that was one of the best ideas to help sell

Yes I watched the wedding and recorded it.

Had to do the recording since I kept falling asleep.

I did have tea while watching so I could fell a part of the whole thing.

It looked like England is the place to be today. Could you believe how many people were along the streets and at the parks. I was watching and wishing the minute

Prince William proposed to Kate I had bought a ticket to England.

I was watching "Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil" and getting very home sick for Savannah Georgia. I love Savannah! I really think I am a southern girl at heart.

This is the "Olde Pink House" and its haunted...

as is most of Savannah. I think when I die if I haven't moved there before

Thats the place I am going.

Its so beautiful if you get to go there when the azaleas are in bloom.

Parks are everywhere and you really don't need a car if you stay downtown.

I could just move right in....

Cake Mix Cookies

These are the easiest cookie! I got the recipe from Julie at Quilt Club Wednesday. So easy she just told me, I drove home and made them. So here's the recipe: 1 box chocolate cake mix, 2 eggs and 1/3 cup oil. Mix together and add you choice chocolate chips and or mint chips and bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees.

200 dollars late I was hooked!

My Doll house arrived!

And I was a little over whelmed when I started read the directions on how to assemble it.

Well... I almost started to cry....there are a MILLION pieces....maybe even 2 MILLION...

and you have to do it the right order....oh my gosh....

My husband came to the rescue!!!! Yeah!!

What a great guy! I really am going to keep him!

So now that he will put it together....I am now thinking of how to decorate it.

So I picked up the above book.... so many cute ideas.....One of my girl friends told me there are miniature magazines ....hhuummm I am sure I need one of those too.

Elizabeth Taylor

She was such an Icon. And will be always remembered not only

for the movies I grew up on but for all of her Charity work too.

And when they posted they had a cookbook coming out I was over the moon. I was going to order it on line and I was in Costco and there it was. I ran to the check out to buy it. I am one of those weird people who loves to read cookbooks and I must say I LOVED reading this one!

It is a very nice book and the pictures are perfect. I love how it comes with a plastic bookmark that you can move to any page and its really cute. I would say I would try almost every recipe and I don't say that to often.

This is one you will want to add to your collection. I am so glad I did. And the one thing is a lot of the time I get excited to get someones book and when it comes there only a very few recipes I would make....well this isn't the case with this book.....I LOVE it!

You should run to Costco before they are gone... because then you will have to wait for the mail carrier and that is just was to long to wait.

Making Laundry Soap!

Yes its time again to make Laundry soap. I love making this soap because its so easy and it work so well. And its pretty too! LOL The picture above is the pink Zote soap I shread in my kitchenaid.

And I can always use a strong stir er! Elijah was so much help.
Even if he is getting tired...stiring form the bottom up is hard work.

See told you ....pretty!

*You can also use Ivory, Castile or PINK Zote bar soap.

3 bars Fels Naptha Bar Soap - each bar is 5 1/2 oz.

(I LOVE TO USE PINK ZOTE THE BEST! USE 1~1/3 bars)

4 lbs. Borax

4 lbs. Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

4 lbs. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

Mix and store in airtight container.

1 to 2 tablespoons per load.

Next packaging ...so important!

A Favor for a Treat!

Does this look like a good favor...

These little cupcakes are really wash cloths folded into 3rds and rolled to fit in the cupcake paper and topped with a flower and button. Then put into these cute bags and tied off. I made them for a favor I am giving away this week.I am suppose to bring a treat to a meeting I hope these count! I had so much fun making them. I did light a sugar cookie candle to help the mood.

I have been finishing up this quilt and thought I would share .... I wasn't to sure about this one until now and I think I like it...

I can't remember the name of the line...

I used a Jelly roll for the center and the binding.

I was a very easy quilt to put together. And I got the pattern out of a Better Homes and Garden Quilting magazine. I have been making more and more from the magazines I buy than the books.I guess 7 dollars beats 22 dollars,,,LOL

even though I have been to several cooking classes...I have just never gotten the hang of bread making. But this recipe is so easy and I got a few emails wanting the recipe.

So I decided to make one.

I picked 2 fabrics to get started. The floral will be the main fabric and the white is what I did the stitchery on.

I started by quilting the the background. Then drawing and stitching the picture at the top.

Busy As Can Be

I don't know about you but the Holiday's are always so hectic and lots decorating to do and company to see. So what better time than to Redecorate!

That is always how it goes at my house. But it is the holidays ...and I do want it to look beautiful. So we began with this room. It was just a little to blah. It needs some color.

My Husband...his motto is "A happy Wife is a Happy Life".

But he isn't looking to happy... he will be when its done is the way I see it.. I will be so happy then!

This room needs some color! So we started with that....but it needs more....

Yes it needs a valance....since I have lots of fabric.....I am hoping this turns out......

2 more windows to go.... and I love the new chairs ....the old ones are really cute so they will get moved to my sewing room....

Do you remember this movie?

Oh my gosh I thought I Kris Kristofferson was the cutest thing ever! I think its his fault to this day that my radio is always on the country channel! (Well I also have blame Trace Atkins) But this movie was one I am sure I have seen to many times to count. And I always love listening to Barbra Streisand. Her voice is so amazing. Oh if you really want a good Christmas album Barbra's is one of my faves! Sometimes it just nice to watch the old ones and remember how your heart would sing as Kris sang!!!

What's For Dinner?

Fancy Noodle Bake is what's dinner. We are having a Harry Potter weekend. I am getting my grandsons on Friday so we can watch the last Harry Potter so Saturday when we go to the show we will remember what happened last. 1 lb. hamburger

Mix with hamburger;

2 to 3 cloves garlic minced

1 tsp. salt

dash of pepper

1 tsp. sugar

2 small cans tomato sauce

Cook;

1 16 oz package noodles

Mix together;

1 chopped onion (sweet Vidalia)

1 8 oz package cream cheese at room temp.

1 cup sour cream

Arrange in 9 X 13 buttered pan. 1 row of noodles, cream cheese and meat mixture, repeat 1 more row. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

I am quilting a quilt I finally finished. It is so nice to get it finished. It is all quilted I just need to bind it now. Can't wait to hang it.
